Councillor Report on Horninsgsea Greenway

Just caught sight of the GCP agenda for tomorrow which includes the
Horninsgsea Greenway which will impact Fen Ditton.

I have a number of concerns with how the consultation is reported,
briefly summarised as follows:-

– Overly positive – for example reference to 24% supporting the Wadloes
footpath proposals – then ‘positive comments duly noted’.
Surely the 76% opposing is more relevant?

– Confused references to the cyclepath not being down the centre of
High Street when this was clearly shown on the drawings.

– Concerns around the widening of Wadloes not referenced at all – these
were raised by both myself (and other comments i made can be spotted)
and also the Parish Council’s response.

The link to the papers is below with the Horningsea Greenway from p37
onwards -note there are 2 sections  – so from page 37 onwards are
actions where they intend to do something and then further down those
where no action is to be taken.

My own view is that serious concerns should be raised in terms of how
the consultation responses are being presented, either in terms of
misrepresentations and overly positive ‘spin’, or omitting comments that
maybe don’t suit the narrative?

It also doesn’t give me much hope in terms of the current Newmarket Road
consultation and how the congestion charge responses will be reported.

In terms of tomorrow’s meeting, questions have to be asked 3 working
days in advance so we can do nothing to influence. However if other
cllrs are in agreement i would suggest we do raise our concerns in a
follow-up and/or involve District and County Cllrs (I appreciate Cllr
Hofman is on the group contact list). Whether this is an agenda matter
for March’s meeting i am happy to take advice.

Kind Regards

Graham
