Overnight road closures A14 carriageway & B1047 17th-19th Nov

Dear Parish Council

I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out essential bridge survey and investigation work on the A14 Horningsea Road Overbridge. The structure carries the single carriageway (1 running lane in each direction) of the B1047 Horningsea Road over the A14 dual carriageway.

The purpose of the bridge survey is to carry out various extensive tests on Horningsea Road Overbridge over the A14 carriageway in Cambridgeshire.

On B1047 Horningsea Road, we plan to work here between Monday 17 November 2025 and Wednesday 19 November 2025. We will work weeknights only, between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

Lane closures on B1047 Horningsea Road

To carry out the work safely on the bridge deck, we will need to turn off the permanent traffic lights on B1047 Horningsea Road and replace them with our temporary overnight traffic signal control. Lane closures will be implemented in phases.

On A14 carriageway, we plan to begin work between Monday 17 November 2025 and Wednesday 19 November 2025. We will work weeknights only, between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

We will need to return in January 2026; we will notify those affected closer to the time.

Full road closures and diversions on A14 carriageway

To carry out the work safely under the bridge deck and roadsides, we will need to close a section of A14 carriageway underneath the Horningsea Road overbridge from A14 junction 33 to junction 35, and divert traffic as follows:

  • Traffic travelling on the A14 eastbound will be diverted from A14 junction 33 through A1309 Milton Road and turn left at roundabout to A1134 and turn left to Newmarket Road and back onto the A14 eastbound.
  • Traffic travelling on the A14 westbound will be diverted from A14 junction 35 to Newmarket Road and turn right at the roundabout to A1134 and turn right to A1309, Milton Road and back onto the A14 westbound.
